This image ⬆️ from unsplash was originally 1.3MB at 800×800 resolution as a .png file. After conversion to the webp format (google), it’s only 100kb, which means faster page loads.
Pros
- smaller = faster page load
- https://sandyuraz.com/blogs/webp/
Cons
- google format
- might lose some quality
- https://eng.aurelienpierre.com/2021/10/webp-is-so-great-except-its-not/
- twitter currently doesn’t accept webp for post sharing. So for your featured blog images I’d recommend .jpeg instead
You can use a website like https://cloudconvert.com/ and just drag and drop png files to convert them into webp.
