My favorite cryptos: ETH and BTC

KISS đź’‹

For me, the two giants in the cryptocurrency market —Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) —are the standouts. Here’s why they’re my favorites and why they continue to lead the crypto landscape.

Bitcoin: The Digital Gold 🥇

Bitcoin is where it all started. Created by an anonymous figure (SN), Bitcoin has become the gold standard of cryptocurrencies. Here are a few reasons why I’m a fan:

  1. Decentralized and Scarce
Bitcoin’s decentralized nature means it operates without any central authority. With a limited supply of 21M coins, it’s an asset that’s genuinely scarce—a quality that makes it valuable in the long run.
  2. Store of Value
Bitcoin’s appeal as a “SOV” is what keeps me interested. It’s often compared to gold because it’s seen as a hedge against inflation and has a slow, predictable release rate. As traditional paper currencies (fiat) face devaluation, Bitcoin stands as a digital counterpart with immense potential.

Ethereum: The World Computer đź”·

If Bitcoin is digital gold, then Ethereum is more like the digital economy. Ethereum brought in a whole new world of possibilities with its smart contracts.

  1. Smart Contracts and DeFi
Ethereum is the backbone of decentralized finance (DeFi), making it one of the most exciting innovations in the crypto space. Smart contracts allow developers to build dapps, creating a new wave of financial products and services without middlemen.
  2. Ethereum 2.0 and Sustainability
The Ethereum network’s transition to proof-of-stake (POS) with Ethereum 2.0 marks a huge step toward sustainability. This upgrade aims to reduce energy consumption by over 99%, making it a more eco-friendly blockchain compared to proof-of-work (POW) systems.
  3. NFTs and Web3
Ethereum’s blockchain is home to the NFT boom and the Web3 movement. This ecosystem of decentralized internet services and digital assets has reshaped how we think about the digital economy, making Ethereum essential for innovation in blockchain technology.

Why They Complement Each Other

Bitcoin and Ethereum, though different in their purpose, complement each other perfectly. Bitcoin’s focus is on providing a stable, scarce digital asset, while Ethereum enables a dynamic ecosystem of applications that push the boundaries of blockchain technology.

If you are a beginner in cryptocurrency investing, I would recommend e.g. 0.01 BTC and 0.1 ETH invested through e.g. Coinbase.
